  1. Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval of a research study (i.e. approval of the protocol application) is generally for one (1) year.  However, in some cases, the IRB approval will be valid for less than a year.  For example, the IRB may issue a 6-month approval period after which the study must be renewed.  

  2. Renewal reminder notices are sent at 60 and 30 days before the current IRB approval will expire. 

  3. Plan to submit a renewal request through IRBIS at least two (2) weeks in advance of the renewal deadline to allow adequate time for IRB renewal review.
