Starting in Fall 2020, all new students are required to have a laptop. These hardware specifications are recommended: i7 processor, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD hard drive. See the Niner Ready Laptop Initiative website for more details.

If you have a laptop and want to see if it meets the University's recommended hardware specifications, follow the steps below:

  1. Find the Control panel by typing control in the Start menu
  2. Click on System
    1. If you don't see System click on the Category dropdown menu and select Large or Small icons

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen

  2. From the drop-down menu, click About This Mac to open the System Information window
  3. Check that the processor and memory specs align with laptop requirements

Hard drive
  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Click on This PC
  3. Under Devices and drives - look at the total space that is available

  1. Open Finder
  2. Click your hard drive’s icon 

  3. Click the File menu

  4. Select Get Info, look at Capacity
